Family Fun at Charles Town Landing!

South Carolina has such a rich history that finding the perfect spot for a day trip is nothing more than deciding if you want to go north or south. On this particular day, I chose south and found myself turning into Charles Towne Landing State Historic Site in Charleston. Being a bit of a history buff this was the perfect place for me.  A visit to Charles Towne Landing tells you the story of the first English settlers who landed on our lovely coast in 1670 and established the Carolina colony.

There are 80 acres of walking and nature trails, biking trails, bird watching and a history trail where you can visit the original settlement area of 1670-1680 with reconstructed fortifications, protective palisade and crop garden. There you will see folks in period costumes, a replica of the ship that the settlers first came to our shores on and if you time it just right you can experience a live cannon demonstration.

While strolling the walking and nature trails you will see a beautiful marsh and a multitude of azaleas, camellias and live oaks. Some of the live oaks are several hundred years old. Who can resist touching a live oak gracefully draped in spanish moss that has hundreds of years of history to tell. I know I can’t.
Charles Towne Landing is an awesome place for a family adventure. Take a picnic lunch and share a family meal at one of the dozens of picnic tables, rent bicycles instead of walking to add to the fun of the day and let’s not forget to  visit the natural habitat zoo! I can’t think of a better way to make wonderful memories with family and friends!

Do you have a special place to spend time with family and friends?

See you in the comments!
