The Real Food Pioneer Challenge in support of Food Revolution Day, May 19th!!

If you read Jamie’s post, Easter and The Real Food Pioneer Challenge yesterday, he has challenged each of our readers to replace one (1) processed food item that is purchased weekly with a Real Food alternative.
So, in support of Food Revolution Day, May 19th, starting tomorrow April 11th through May 16th we will have 5 weekly challenges to help get you started on a Real Food transition.  We hope that by going through the challenges you will, at the very least, gain a new perspective through this experience and make some positive long term changes!
The weekly challenges are listed as follows:
April 11th thru May 19th – READ All Ingredient Labels – Throughout the entire challenge you will stop and make a point to read the ingredient labels on the foods you are purchasing or, in some respects, never purchasing again. I do see this happen once you take the time to actually understand what is contained in the products you purchase weekly.
April 11th thru May 19th – No Artificial Ingredients – Replace one (1) product you purchase each week throughout this challenge with an all natural substitute.

  • April 11th thru April 17th – No Low-Fat Foods – Do not eat any food products that are labeled as “low-fat,” “lite,” “light,” “reduced fat,” or “nonfat.” 
  • April 18th thru April 24th – No Fast Food – You and your family (or those willing to participate) will NOT eat any fast food. Breakfasts, Lunches and Dinners will solely be prepared at home. 
  • April 25th thru May 1st – “Real” Beverages – “real” beverages include coffee, tea, milk and all-natural, sugar-free fruit juices in moderation and alcohol beverages at the bear minimum. Coffee and Tea should be sweetened with only natural sweeteners, honey, maple syrup, sucanat or stevia. 
  •  May 2nd thru May 8th – Switch to Organic Fruits & Veggies – Purchase all fruits and veggies according to The Dirty Dozen List preferably from local sources.
  • May 9th thru May 15th – No Refined Oils – No refined or hydrogenated oils including (but not limited to): vegetable oil, organic vegetable oil, soybean oil, corn oil, canola oil, organic canola oil, margarine, and grape seed oil.
  • May 16th thru May 19th – Stop Eating When You Feel Full – Listen to your body and stop eating when you’re full.

    Well this will be quite a challenge and I will try very hard. But understand I do not do the grocery shopping or cooking within the household. The week of April 11 thru the seems to be something I can handle. I will take one week at a time. Good luck with your challenge .

    I have always read the labels and it is disturbing to see such horrible ingredients within the foods we purchase at the food stores. They are truly killing us all.

    You're a lucky lady not to have to do the shopping or the cooking … however I would put in suggestions to the family chef after all he/she could benefit from experiencing the Real Food Pioneer Challenge. One week at a time is how we roll … baby steps to transition and awareness to what is being played off as healthy for us which is NOT so much! I look forward to your comments on how you did!
